John Stezaker Collages

Alice who is a kind of a niece of mine recently gave me a thank you card of one of John Stezakers collages. I have it on my pinboard in my new Oxo Tower workspace (come visit!). I find it mesmerising and keep looking at it.
I'd love to see his work in 'real life' as I never have. It reminds me a little of the work of Shaun Kardinal who I posted about on this blog in February. Shaun uses old lithographs of tourist destinations as opposed to people or film star publicity shots in his collages of course, but these works have a similar wistfulness in the way the images are juxtaposed. I particularly like the lovers whose faces are chasm walls with a wide gulf running between them. Know the feeling!
