'Big Sur' Painting
Big Sur is part of a series of ongoing work looking at architectural forms, particularly staircases and structures. Like many of my pieces (even the most recognisable landmarks like London Eye) the composition is actually a mixture of elements from many different sketches. I wanted it to look like a place from a movie set or the beach house of Gatsby. I've never actually been to Big Sur, but half of my family are from California so I have a whole history and a load of photo albums to fire my imagination.
I painted it at the end of 2018 in gouache and watercolour on board and it's mounted and framed in a solid wenge frame.
Painting: 30 x 28 cms (11.8 x 11 inches)
Framed: 43 x 53 cms (16.9 x 20.8 inches)
This original painting is also available as a limited edition print (though I changed the colours)
